Assignment #3 - Survey of 3 Podcasts.

Statcast

Statcast is a podcast from MLB.com. What makes this different from other podcasts is that people who want to hear it need to click then downloaded and then sign in with an account, which takes time. These podcast also cost money and are very expensive.  What sets them apart from the other podcast also is that it’s not from a show on TV or radio. Statcast is an online only podcast. Unlike traditional podcasts they are not on every day and there are no commercials in this podcast.

Statcast dives right into the story with no intro or build up. This is unlike traditional broadcasting because of the lack of intro to the programs.  Listeners do not call in with questions.  They just take tweets and then talk about the topic.

This podcast is not live, another way that podcasts are usually unlike traditional broadcasting.  They also typically sign on and just go straight to the show without any build up or excitement.  The episode I was listening to was dry since there were no features and lacked insight on the show topics. When you listen to a podcast it doesn’t have the same feel as does a typical radio program.  I liked that in this episode that they where covering key stories.  I don’t like that it goes too fast without dialog or build up like in real radio.

###

MSNBC TV and News

The podcasts from MSNBC TV and News aren’t as long in length as a typical podcast episode.   These are short episodes, with only one version.  You have to visualize the show without seeing it. No interviews are heard just the clip from the program.  This takes a TV clip and makes a podcast of it.  The viewers have to see with their mind.

It’s unlike traditional radio, here the viewer or browser selects particular episodes from various MSNBC TV shows.  The viewer can select the format, such as iTunes, and if they want the video or audio only version.

Most podcasts are a little longer in length than just one audio clip since a short podcast is not enough to satisfy the listeners.  Listeners to a podcast need to have the main show then have it divided into segments and interviews.  The viewers need more from a program instead of a clip from what listeners have been used to before.  This podcast is a little longer in length. It comes in two feeds, TV and radio. Viewers need to decide on one. I don’t like the length of the podcast. I feel as if the podcast should be longer and give the audience more to listen to in the program.

###

ESPN Sporting Life

The Sporting Life podcast is a pre-recorded podcast. The podcasts are weekly episodes of The Sporting Life show and features “the best of” moments.  They cut out certain parts of the live show to speed it up.

A podcast can be listened to at anytime. Listener’s get to what the show is about right away.  In a regular radio program you getting everything from start to finish.  People can go online and listen to a podcast at anytime and listen to their favorite episode for as long as it’s online. These podcasts do not have the radio introduction material.  They go straight into the program that is on that day. They cut out interviews and get to the highlights. Podcasts make a show go faster than the length of a typical radio program. What I like about podcasts is getting to the main stories that are covered right away without an introduction. These podcast are not live and spend little time on one segment before going on to the next one very quickly.
